Kal Tire Unveils Its Global Leadership Position at MINExpo 2012

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Monday, September 24, 2012

Las Vegas, NV – Kal Tire’s Mining Tire Group exhibits for the first time at MINExpo 2012 and showcases its position as the world’s premier mining tire network. They define their ability to be the only tire service provider capable of delivering a customized, on-site supply, service and safety program anywhere in the world as, “Global Strength. Local Support.”

With over 40 years’ experience, the Kal Tire Mining Tire Group now operates on over 150 mines sites on five continents and in 19 countries, and they continue to expand. They also provide service to ports, construction projects, quarries, steel mills and sugar cane plantations.

“In the current environment, global mining companies are facing significant escalating costs,” says Bob Wallis, senior vice president, Kal Tire Mining Tire Group. “When tires can account for 25 per cent of a mine’s operating budget, we have solutions that will improve performance and reduce costs because of the technologies we use and the level of service and support we can provide.”

Recycling mining tires is also a global issue. Kal Tire is embarking on creating an environmentally responsible solution; total recycle vs. disposal. Tires will be broken down on-site then shipped to a plant where they will be processed for end-use markets such as tire derived products, tire derived fuel and tire derived aggregate. “Kal Tire has been environmentally and socially conscious for many years because it’s the right thing to do,” states Wallis. “Finding a solution to address recycling mining tires is essential and it makes sense that Kal Tire includes this as part of our global programs.”

Retreading of OTR tires is another important part of Kal Tire’s service. They currently have two OTR retread plants in Canada, one in the United Kingdom and another in Ghana. With another retread plant in development in Chile, Kal Tire will soon have five retread plants across four continents.

Kal Tire’s global approach permeates every aspect of the business; from a multi-lingual intranet for sharing ideas and best practices internally to having one set of highly reputed safety standards no matter where in the world operations take place.
